Estonian traditional bread workshop
Estonian traditional bread workshop
Fresh bread has a marvellous smell, which tickles your nostrils and brings a broad smile on your face. Come and join the workshop and we will teach you to make and bake bread. During the course different stages of making bread are learnt. After the course we leave the bread dough heave and in 3-4 hours the bread is on the table. Making bread was originally known already during the early Stone Age – so the tradition is very old. Bread was and is an important food item on Estonians’ table. As bread is important there are several beliefs and habits connected to it in Estonia. For example, before baking a cross sign was made of the loaf of bread to protect it form evil. Our national poet Juhan Liiv has praised warm bread in his poem Wanderer for a good reason. Warm bread straight from the oven smells divinely and tastes delicious. Come and learn this old trade of art.
